The White Witch, also known as Jadis, is a primary antagonist in C.S. Lewis's *The Chronicles of Narnia* series, prominently featured in *The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe*. She is portrayed as an incredibly powerful sorceress and the self-proclaimed Queen of Narnia.

Originating from the world of Charn, Jadis destroyed all life there with a single, selfish word. She arrives in Narnia and uses her magic to plunge the land into an endless winter, ruling with an iron fist. Her power stems largely from the Deep Magic, which she understands and manipulates.

Ruthless and devoid of empathy, Jadis views all others as tools or obstacles to her ambition. Her reign is characterized by fear and oppression. She is a formidable opponent to Aslan, representing the forces of evil and darkness against his benevolent rule.

While the White Witch is primarily known from the books, she has been portrayed in numerous film and television adaptations of *The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe* by actresses such as Barbara Kellerman in the 1988 BBC production, and Tilda Swinton in the 2005 Disney film.
